Onion "Bogatyrskaya Sila".
An early-ripening salad variety for obtaining large onions from seeds in one season (when grown using seedlings). In 6-7 weeks, it forms a round bulb weighing up to 500 g!
When sown without seedlings in April in open ground to a depth of 1.0-1.5 cm, it forms a bulb weighing up to 160 g.
The variety is valued for its consistently high yields (up to 6.0 kg / m2), regardless of the growing region. Combines early maturity, delicate sweet taste and good shelf life of onions.
Recommended for preparing summer salads and short-term storage.

* Onion fly.
During the flowering period of cherry and dandelion, onion flies fly out of their wintering places and lay eggs between the onion leaves or on the soil near the plants. The hatched larvae penetrate the bulbs. Damaged bulbs rot (especially in damp weather), the leaves wither and turn yellow, the plants are easily pulled out...
The first generation of larvae causes harm in June, the second - at the end of July. Knowing the time of flight and egg-laying of flies, you can scare them away from plants with tobacco dust mixed with ash 1:1. Spray this mixture between the onion rows. You can use the phytoncidal activity of carrot leaves. Sow a row of carrots along the onion bed - the phytoncides of the carrots will scare away the onion fly, and the phytoncides of the onions - the carrot fly. If the onion leaves have started to turn yellow, and after pulling out the bulb, you see white larvae up to 1 cm long, water the onion with a solution of table salt (1 cup per 10 liters of water) under the root (1/2 cup per plant). Do not be late with this procedure: the larvae will crawl into the bulb and will be invulnerable to the solution.
